The fox hunt is a true spectacle with centuries-old traditions and strict rules of the game.
The Fox Hunt in Mheer โ A Special Tradition in the Limburg Hills
An impressive spectacle of horses, hunting dogs and centuries-old traditions, right in the middle of the beautiful South Limburg landscape.
Each autumn, the picturesque village of Mheer serves as the backdrop for one of the most unique events in the Limburg Hills: the traditional slip hunt.
During this impressive event, dozens of riders in characteristic hunting clothing, accompanied by a large pack of hunting dogs, ride through the undulating landscape around Mheer. The combination of galloping horses, enthusiastic dogs, colorful hunting costumes, and the beautiful Limburg landscape creates an unforgettable experience.
What is a fox hunt?
Unlike a traditional hunt, during a drag hunt there is no pursuit of live animals. The dogs follow a pre-laid scent trail that runs through the fields, meadows, and hills.
The riders follow the dogs and overcome various natural obstacles along the way. The result is a spectacular sight where tradition, equestrian sport and nature come together.
Mheer Castle as a picturesque setting
The historic Castle Mheer and its surrounding estates form a beautiful setting for this unique tradition. The stately buildings, centuries-old trees, and rolling meadows give the event a fairy-tale-like atmosphere.
For visitors and photography enthusiasts, the fox hunt is a unique opportunity to admire the horses and dogs in action against the backdrop of the South Limburg landscape.
